Country seeks state custodian for discrimination-free society: NC

Kathmandu : Main opposition Nepali Congress has said that the country has sought state guardianship for promoting discrimination free society.

In a statement released on Friday, NC Spokesperson Bishwo Prakash Sharma has questioned silent gesture of the Prime Minister over the irresponsible statement of his cabinet minister in a recent incident.

Referring to an incident wherein Rupa Sunsar from the Dalit community was denied an apartment in Kathmandu, he criticized the minister for taking favour of one side terming such gesture illegal and immoral.

The responsible state should adopt caution and seriousness in a case that may ignite conflict in the society, said NC sources. “The question is not related only to Rupa Sunar and Saraswati Pradhan.

The question is about the kind of society, customs and judicial system we want to establish. The question is whether or not we want to establish a state system which will raise an issue and resolve it in a responsible manner,” reads the statement.
