Locust swarms reappear in Dang

Dang : Locust swarms have reappeared in the Deukhuri valley of Dang in western Nepal on Sunday. Though the locust swarms had been seen in various places of the country in late June, they had disappeared without causing a significant loss in most of the places.

However, local farmers have been worried as the swarms covered fields and farms in wards 2, 3 and 4 of Rapti municipality. They are trying their best to chase away the devastating insects by hitting empty containers or producing noise in other ways.

“The insects came here at around 1 pm from Pyuthan,” a local farmer, Basudev Neupane, says, “Hence, without caring about rainfall, the farmers are trying hard to save the crops.”

According to Neupane, the number of insects appeared today is much higher than that of those coming two weeks ago.
