13th SAG : Two More Gold Medals In Taekwondo

3 Dec., Kathmandu : Nepal’s Bir Bahadur Mahara won gold medal in Gyeorugi category of Taekwondo under the 13th South Asian Games today. In the final match held under below 68 category, Mahara defeated Muhammad Fahim by 41-36 to win the gold medal. Likewise, under the same category for women under 46 kg, Kajal Shrestha won a gold medal. She also defeated Pakistani opponent Sayed Sidra Batul by 50-14. Mahara and Shrestha had both defeated Indian opponents to enter the final.

Nepal clinches silver in Women Volleyball

Nepal has won silver medal in women’s volleyball under the ongoing 13th South Asian Games (SAG), 2019. Nepal lost the final match 3-2 against India at the covered hall, Tripureshwor here on Tuesday. Nepal lost its first set 17-25. However, the Nepali women’s team won the second and third sets 25-24 and 25-21 respectively.

Nepal, however, lost its fourth set 20-25 and was defeated while letting India win the match with the set 15-6. This is the first time the Nepal clinched silver medal in the women volleyball in the SAG. Earlier in 1999, 2006 had 2016, Nepal had only secured bronze in the same discipline. Similarly, India also won the men’s volleyball gold by beating Pakistan 3 sets to 1 in the match held under the 13th SAG today itself.

Nepal faces defeat in Men’s T-20 Cricket

Sri Lanka defeated Nepal by six wickets in the first match of U 23 Men’s T-20 Cricket championship played here today under the ongoing 13th South Asian Games (SAG). The match was held at Tribhuvan University cricket ground at Kirtipur. Nepal, which was sent to bat first after losing the toss, made 172 runs in the set 20 overs, losing five wickets.

Sri Lanka achieved the victory target of 173 runs in 19.1 overs at the loss of four wickets. Shammu Asan made 72 runs not-out for Sri Lanka. He clinched five sixes and four fours in 44 balls. Similarly, Nishan Madusaka contributed 46 runs for Sri Lanka including one six and five fours in 42 balls. Towards bowling, Nepal’s Pawan Sarraf took two wickets while Sompal Kami and Sushan Bhari one wicket each. Nepal’s vice-captain Deependra Singh Airee gave his best performance in batting department for Nepal.

He made 72 runs, including three sixes and four fours, in 44 balls while not-out. Similarly, Pawan Sarraff made 22 runs, captain Gyanendra Malla and Binod Bhandari made equal 22 runs and Aarif Shekh made 19 runs. Towards bowling, Sri Lanka’s Kamindu Mendis took two wickets while Dubindu Tilakratne, Asita Fernando and Kaviska Anjula took one wicket each.

Nepal make victorious start in women football

Nepal has made a victorious start in the first match of women football championship under the 13th South Asian Games underway here. In the match held at Pokhara Stadium, hosts Nepal defeated Sri Lanka by one goal to nil. Although Nepal put the Sri Lankan team under pressure throughout the game, it managed to score in the last minute. Saru Limbu netted the ball for Nepal in the 88th minute. Sri Lanka played a defensive game while Nepal had put it under constant pressure from the start. Sri Lankan goalkeeper Ayomi Vijayrathana easily stopped a shot by Nepali team captain Niru Thapa in the 38th minute of play. RSS
