Chinese Nationals Arrested in Kathmandu for Violation of Prohibited Area

8 May, Kathmandu : Police here have arrested altogether 25 Chinese nationals for violating the prohibited area amid the ongoing lockdown.

According to Singha Durbar Police Circle’s Police Inspector Bed Poudel, the Chinese nationals were arrested for attacking the police personnel by entering the prohibited area in Singha Durbar via Thamel and Ranipokhari.

The Chinese nationals had been carrying placards that had slogan as ‘We want to go back home’. “We stopped them as they entered the prohibited area. But they continued barging into the prohibited area and attacked us. So, we held them,” explained Inspector Poudel.

The Chinese nationals had charged baton on the security personnel too, according to Poudel. Police, in retaliation, baton charged them.

DSP Hari Bahadur Basnet sustained injury in his head in the baton charge. Inspector Poudel shared that a total of 5 security personnel were injured while six Chinese nationals sustained injury in the incident.

Police have kept the arrested ones in the Nepal Police Club, Bhrikutimandap. All the arrested Chinese nationals were learned to have arrived Nepal on tourist visa.
