Silwal reappointed NSC member-secretary

Ramesh Kumar Silwal has been re-appointed as member-secretary of the National Sports Council (NSC).

A cabinet meeting held on Monday appointed Silwal to the post for a term of four years. Silwal has been appointed to the post of member-secretary on the basis of selection made for the first time as per the new Sports Development Act-2077.

Silwal has been appointed as the member-secretary from open competition that took place for the first time in NSC’s history. Out of three candidates including a woman recommended by a committee under coordination of Secretary of the Ministry of Youth and Sports as per the new Act, Silwal has been appointed to the post.

The committee had recommended the name of Silwal, former captain of National Women Volleyball Team, Anju Shrestha, and former Vice-chair of Nepal Volleyball Association, Lil Bahadur Thapa. A total of 27 people had filed applications for the post.

Silwal was appointed to the post of member-secretary on July 8, 2019 and his post was scrapped automatically on July 2, 2020 with the implementation of new sport act.

Similarly, the meeting has also appointed Shiva Koirala to the post of Vice-Chair of NSC for four years. Koirala had played the role of coordinator of Publicity Department of 13th South Asian Games.
