CK Prasai’s spouse Girja Kumari passes away
Jhapa: Girija Kumari Prasai, spouse of veteran democratic socialist thinker and Nepali Congress (NC) leader CK Prasai, passed away on Tuesday evening. She was 90.
Girija Kumari has long been active in the social transformation movement along with the politics in Nepal. In the elections to the House of Representatives of 2051 BS, she had contested with the sitting Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli from Jhapa Constituency-2.
She was defeated due to factional feud of her own party Nepali Congress at the moment, the knowledgeable sources said.
The then Panchayati regime had confiscated all the properties of Prasai family for their involvement in the struggle for democracy, freedom of expression and fundamental freedoms of the people, said NC Jhapa President Udhhav Thapa.
Girija Kumari always inspired CK to move ahead in the pursuit of democratic rights despite barbaric act of the Panchayat to seize their properties and force him to stay in exile, Thpaa added.
She was born in Kumaripati of Lalitpur in 17 Kartik 1988 as a second daughter of Captain Ganejdnra Bahadur and Chandra Kumari Karki.
She is survived by a son and two daughters. According to the family sources, final rites of the late Prasain will be performed at Kankai Mai at 1.00 pm today.
