Nepali megastar Rajesh Hamal visits UAE; advocates for digital remittance among Nepali expats

Dubai: Nepali megastar Mr. Rajesh Hamal, also known as the “Mahanayak” of the Nepali film industry has completed his two-day visit to UAE.

Mr. Hamal was in the country upon invitation from Lulu Exchange and eSewa Money Transfer, to promote the latter’s global initiative “Mero Digital Desh”, aimed at greater adoption of formal & digital mode of money transfer among the Nepali community in the UAE.

As part of his visit, he visited several accommodation camps, apart from branch outlets of Lulu Exchange, including the ones at Bur Dubai, Jebel Ali Shoppers Mall, Madinat Zayed and Shabia Mall.

Mr. Hamal, along with senior officials from Lulu Exchange and eSewa Money Transfer, also met with the Nepali Ambassador to UAE Mr. Krishna Dhakal.

Mr. Shafeez Fazel, DGM – Lulu Exchange, Mr. Daniel D Shrestha, Director – Group Strategy, F1soft, Nepal and Mr. Ajesh Koirala, CEO – eSewa Money Transfer, Nepal, were also present in the meeting.

Discussions revolved around how each stakeholder of the cross-border remittance ecosystem, including the exchange houses, pay-out remittance companies in Nepal and the Nepal embassy, can all work together to drive formal remittances and discourage money transfer via illegal channels in the UAE – Nepal corridor.

eSewa Money Transfer Nepal’s “Mero Digital Desh” is a six-month long initiative ending in March 2023. Nepalese residents of UAE who send money directly to their beneficiary’s bank accounts or eSewa wallet through ESewa Money Transfer’s channel are eligible to participate in the campaign.

One customer every month for six months during the campaign period shall get a surprise gift and one lucky customer from the campaign period shall get a beautiful house inside Kathmandu valley.

The consumer activation program conducted jointly by the two-partner organizations with the support of Nepal’s top celebrity has been highly successful so far, encouraging greater remittances and driving financial awareness.
