Voting kicks off for Speaker’s election

Kathmandu : Voting for the Speaker’s election has kicked off in the House of Representatives. The voting is going on the New Baneshwor-based Federal Parliament Building and two candidates: CPN (UML)’s Dev Raj Ghimire and Nepali Congress lawmaker Ishwori Devi Neupane are in the election race. Ghimire represents the ruling alliance while Neupane is from the opposition alliance.

Prior to this, proposers of both candidates presented separate proposals before the meeting to elect their respective candidates and the proposals were backed by lawmakers who supported the candidates.

CPN (UML) lawmaker Subash Nembang proposed the candidacy of Ghimire and it is backed by CPN (Maoist) Center parliamentary party Chief Whip Hitraj Pandey, Rastriya Swatantra Party Chair Rabi Lamichhane and Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) Chair Rajendra Lingden.

Similarly, Nepal Congress general secretary Bishwa Prakash Sharma proposed the candidacy of Neupane and it is backed by CPN (Unified Socialist) leader Prakash Jwala.
