100 Young Eco Leaders Announced by 4H

Kathmandu: The 3rd Agriculture-Climate Youth Leadership Summit 2081 has announced 100 Youth Eco-Leaders (Environmental Youth Leaders). Eco leaders will conduct campaigns for green agriculture, climate change and sustainable development throughout the year.

Lokraj Awasthi, president of 4H Nepal informed that 100 youth Eco Leaders Network was formed on June 16th by including all Eco Leaders. Awasthi said that youth under 25 years of age were selected from Devari in the said network. He said that 100 young eco-leaders were selected from among 500 applicants from all over the country.

The organizers informed that the summit passed the statutes, procedures and 6-month action plan and code of conduct of 100 youth eco-leaders network. Eco-leaders have signed and thumbprinted the resolution letter and have resolved to act on green agriculture and climate change and conduct themselves accordingly.

The conference was inaugurated by Bagmati state chief Yadav Chandra Sharma. He said that the Nepalese government should bring a long-term program to stop 

the migration of youth and for the youth to stay in the country. The special guest, Anand Kumar Shrestha, Chairman of the Industry, Tourism and Environment Committee of the Bagmati Province Assembly, expressed his commitment to take initiatives for the creation of climate-friendly laws in Bagmati Province. The vice president of Bagmati Province Youth Council, representatives of The Asia Foundation and others gave congratulatory remarks at the event.

Working papers on three different topics were presented at the summit. In which Professor John Konhaus from Maharishi Vedic International Foundation presented about the Vedic agriculture system. Similarly, University of Agriculture and Forestry Associate Professor Deesh Bhatt presented a paper on the challenges of agriculture and climate change and the questions of the youth.

Similarly, Sunita Mainali, Executive Director of Nepal, presented a working paper on climate justice and agriculture. Similarly, the vice president of 4H Nepal, Sita Ranpal, informed that 10 topics related to agriculture, climate change and youth have been divided into 10 groups for green youth issues.

Organizer Saroj Kumar Jashi said that on the next day of the summit, 10 new ideas related to agriculture and climate change will be selected and an announcement will be given to each youth. Dr. Chintamani Yogi also gave training to the youth on life style and development of positive attitude of the youth.

The 3rd Youth Agriculture-Climate Youth Leadership Summit held in Chitwan has issued a 10-point resolution on green agriculture and climate change. Awasthi informed that the youth issued their resolution for environmental protection in the resolution letter of the summit.

In the resolution letter, the youth have pledged to make their behavior and leadership environment-friendly and to reduce climate change in the community and protect Raithane agriculture. And, he also demanded the government to bring an effective policy for climate change. Industries, factories and builders have also demanded that a certain budget be set aside for environmental protection from the social responsibility budget due to the large impact of climate change.

The organizer informed that there is cooperation and partnership with Bharatpur Metropolitan Municipality, The Asia Foundation, Nabil Bank, Nepal Telecom, Agricultural Development Bank and Orek Nepal in the summit.
