Public transportation resumes from today

Kathmandu :

The public transportation which was halted for about four months has formally come into operation from today. The public transport was halted owing a threat of COVID-19 outbreak for past four months.

According to Nepal Transportation Entrepreneurs Federation, about 50 per cent vehicles are plying from today across the country. However, only very few passengers are seen commuting.

The association general secretary Saroj Sitaula further shared that the number of the vehicles will be gradually increased. He added that the safety measures were adopted by vehicle staffs and passengers are also requested for the same.

The government has permitted to operate the public vehicles within the district and adjoining another district only for this Shrawan month however, entrepreneurs are demanding to open all routes for the public transportation.

Earlier the government and entrepreneurs were agreed to bear fifty per cent insurance from government side and fifty per cent from entrepreneurs if any transport workers die of COVID-19 infection.

Along with it, the government was agreed to establish relief fund to compensate for the family of transport workers if he or she dies of COVID-19.
