The Government of Japan has extended grant assistance worth Rs 335 million for implementing the School Sector Development Program (SSDP).

Secretary of the Ministry of Finance Sishir Kumar Dhungana and Japanese Ambassador to Nepal Masamichi Saigo signed notes to this effect here today. Another set of grant agreements for implementing the program were signed by Joint Secretary of the International Economic Cooperation and Coordination Division of the Ministry of Finance Shreekrishna Nepal and Chief Representative of JICA Nepal Yumiko Asakuma.

The SSDP is considered as an important vessel for Nepal’s school education, which is expected to help produce the needed human resources to elevate Nepal’s status from a Least Developed Country by 2022 and reach the status of a middle-income country by 2030.

On the occasion, Japanese Ambassador Saigo expressed the hope that the program would improve the equity, quality, efficiency, governance, management and resilience of the education sector.

The Embassy of Japan has also expressed the confidence that the objectives envisaged by the project would be achieved, and would contribute towards further strengthening the relationship, friendship and cooperation between the peoples of Japan and Nepal, according to a press release issued by the Embassy.
