Govt deploys team for swab collection in Udayapur, Nepalgunj, Birgunj
7 May Kathmandu : The government has deployed a team including Nepalese Army led by the Epidemiology and Disease Control Division to intensify swab collection in Udayapur, Nepalgunj and Birgunj where many COVID-19 infection cases were detected recently.
The team is expected to collect swabs of 500 people in Udayapur and 1,000 each in Birgunj and Nepalgunj, said Dr Bikash Devkota, spokesperson for the Ministry of Health and Population at a regular press meet organised here on Thursday.
So far, 14,509 suspected people were tested in polymerase chain reaction for the virus across the country and 54,093 in rapid diagnostic test, he said. One thousand four hundred fifty one suspected people were tested for the infection in 24 hours.
Seventeen thousand three hundred seventy two have been quarantined across the country and 133 kept in isolation (three in the Kathmandu Valley and the rest outside). Thirteen thousand five hundred twenty two have filled out a form for self-evaluation and 335 have been kept in red zone.
So far, 99 coronavirus infection cases have been confirmed across the country (71 men and 28 women). Health of the infected receiving treatment is normal, said Dr Devkota.
