25 May Surkhet : The number of people infected with coronavirus has reached 11 in the Karnali State. According to the Social Development Ministry, the coronavirus was confirmed among eight individuals of Dailekh and three of Surkhet.

Earlier on last Monday, a 35-year-old male from Western Dailekh was reported to be the first person from Karnali State to contract COVID-19. All other COVID-19 persons contracting the flu-like infection are from Dailekh district.

According to Division of Health Chief Dr Laxmi Narayan Tiwari, on the last COVID-19 test conducted in Bheri Hospital at Nepalgunj, three persons including two men and a woman were from Dailekh district while another test conducted in Surkhet showed that two male had been infected with COVID-19.

Among the infected ones, four were kept in isolation at the State Hospital in Surkhet while rest others were quarantined in Dailekh for further treatment. Hundreds of Nepalis have been returning to Karnali State from India since the Indian government allowed the operation of the railway system to facilitate return of the stranded persons.

The growing influx and lack of proper screening of the returnees at the bordering points have also risked the spread of infection among the fellow travelers and people in Nepal.
