NCP Secretariat for Executing MCC Activities Only After Parliament Endorsement
30 May, Kathmandu : The Secretariat meeting of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) was held at the official residence of the Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli at Baluwatar this morning. It decided that activities that fall under the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) would be executed only after the endorsement by the parliament because it is under consideration at parliament now.
Minister for Foreign Affairs Pradeep Gyawali and Minister for Finance Dr Yubraj Khatiwada and the MCC task force member and standing committee member Dr Bhim Rawal were invited in the meeting for the discussion on MCC.
Following the meeting, Spokesperson Narayan Kaji Shrestha shared that the meeting held discussion on MCC and decided to hold another meeting to discuss taskforce report on it. He added that issue of the MCC will be decided by the parliament.
The meeting also suggested postponing MCC activities- to be done only after its endorsement. Clarity in the budget would be made in line with the response PM Oli furnished on it during the parliament meeting on government policy and programmes.
The taskforce report which has reservation on some provisions would be discussed in the next meeting.
The issue was in debate inside the ruling party after the government included two projects listed under the MCC between the US and Nepal for the implementation in the new fiscal year. The budget includes construction of the two 400KV transmission line projects— Lapsiphedi-Ratamate-Hetauda and Lapsiphedi-Ratamate-Damauli under the foreign aids.
