30,000,634: Nepal’s estimated population is over 30 million officially
26 June Kathmandu : The estimated population of Nepal has crossed the 30 million mark officially. The Central Bureau of Statistics estimates the size of Nepal’s population on the daily basis. Its new estimate for Friday is 30,000,634.
The bureau’s Director-General Nebin Lal Shrestha says the population is calculated on the basis of the 2011 census and rates of average birth, death, and migration. Such a projection is considered scientific across the world, according to him.
As per the 2011 census, Nepal’s population was 26 million and 454,504. Nepal has been carrying out the national census every 10 years. The 12th national census will be held next year. Preparations are underway for the event.
The bureau’s Director Dhundi Raj Lamichhane says the population growth rate is likely to decrease in the next census. Both the average birth rate and death rate are on the decline, according to him. The migration trend, however, has not significantly changed.
Almost two-thirds section of Nepal’s population belongs to the working-age group, which many analysts consider as a demographic dividend.
