Poudel draws Deuba’s attention on internal democracy
Kathmandu : Senior leader of the Nepali Congress has drawn the attention of party President Sher Bahadur Deuba on adherence to the party statute to make the 14th general convention successful and foster internal democracy.
The leaders belonging to the group led by senior leader Ramchandra Poudel submitted a memorandum to the party President, reminding him party rule on distribution of active membership, formation of departments and activities of the sister organization and liaison committees.
Poudel warned of further pressure on the leadership if Deuba failed to furnish satisfactory response to the concern his group showed. He argued that it was doubted the general convention of the party would be free and fair. The present need is to forge unity within party by wiping out the distrust in the party. The active membership of the party needs to be provided following due procedure and criteria, he added.
After submitting the memorandum to the party president, the Poudel group organized a press meet and shared the concern. The senior leader further argued that long followers of the party were being excluded at ward, constituency and district and being denigrated. It must come to an end, Poudel demanded, saying it is sheer injustice.
According to him, periodic election to the sister organizations of the party is must. Party policy and rule must be implemented properly. The press conference was also attended by general secretary Dr Sashank Koirala, leaders Prakash Man Singh, Dr Minendra Rijal, Dilendra Prasad Badu, Dr Shekhar Koirala, Nabindra Raj Joshi, Ramkrishna Yadav, Dr Chandra Bhandari, Gururaj Ghimire, Jivan Pariyar, Kiran Yadav, Sarita Prasain and others.
