17th Civil Service Day Being Observed Today
7 Sept, Kathmandu : The 17th Civil Service Day is being celebrated across the country today. The theme for the Day is ‘Clean and Capable Civil Administration: Prosperity and Good Governance’. However, the government has not scheduled any programme on the occasion this time as the country is battling COVID-19.
Civil servants have been asked to observe the Day at their respective offices by maintaining social distancing and following minimum health standards, said Basanta Adhikari, Spokesperson for the Ministry of the Federal Affairs and General Administration. Essay writing and poem reciting programmes have been scheduled on the occasion.
In a message of greetings on the occasion, Chief Secretary Lok Darshan Regmi said it is the responsibility of government employees to implement government’s policies and programmes, deliver public service with integrity and honesty and manage development work.
Stating that the government’s efficiency is reflected in effective service delivery by civil servants, he asked them to discharge their duty with integrity, accountability and impartially.
He also appealed to all government employees to contribute to the economic development and prosperity of the country and implement the government’s goal of ‘Prosperous Nepal, Happy Nepalis’. The Ministry’s Secretary Surya Prasad Gautam in a message of best wishes urged civil servants to deliver services with honesty and by meeting expectations of the people. The Day has been celebrated since 2061 B.S. to commemorate the issuance of the Civil Service Act 61 years back. There are approximately 80,000 civil servants in the country.
